We have a range of PhD topics and opportunities available and we are always keen to hear from interested potential PhD students. We believe that the key to a good PhD project is an integration of directed initial research with the opportunity for students to generate their own ideas and become independent researchers in their own right. To this end we strongly encourage potential students to come with their own ideas. However, we do have a number of specific (but broad) PhD projects available. As part of our supervision philosophy, we try to give students the opportunity to excel in the many different aspect of research science. This includes researching interesting topics both at UTAS and overseas, acquiring research funding, presenting work at national and international conferences and supporting our students to publish in high quality international journals.
If you are interested in discussing doing a PhD within our lab then please contact either Erik or Geoff and visit the UTAS website for specific information regarding the application process. The University of Tasmania has a number of potential scholarships for both national and international candidates. In brief, the main scholarship round is in October with several smaller rounds throughout the year. Scholarships provide AUD $26,288 per annum (2017 rate) living allowance for 3 years, with a possible 6 month extension. International tuition fee waiver scholarship will be considered for international applicants.
